If you are here, you are probably already interested in babywearing. But if this is a new concept to you, I have listed some facts and benefits below. I hope you find this to be interesting, and maybe even learn something new!

  • What is babywearing? Babywearing is when a caregiver (primarily a mother) wears her baby on her body using assistance from a piece of cloth tied around her body. This practice dates back many thousands of years. Humans would carry their babies and young out of necessity, to keep the baby safe and protected while they traveled and worked. Nowadays, it is seen as a modern trend or convenience, but it is so much more than that; we are tapping into our evolutionary roots!

  • Babywearing honors both the mother and the baby’s natural desires and expectations. The biology and physiology of a baby tells us that they expect to be carried.

  • Babies deeply desire closeness. When your baby can sense that you are near, it signals to them that they are safe and protected.

  • All humans benefit from the touch of a loved one, and so babywearing benefits both the caregiver and the baby in this capacity. Touch reduces cortisol (stress hormone) and lets you know that you are not alone, which is so vital for your mental wellbeing.

  • Babywearing boosts oxytocin and promotes bonding.

  • Babies can get their tummy-time in, vertically, while remaining close to you. That’s right! Babywearing supports the healthy physical development of your infant.
