“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” -Osho
Postpartum Doula
My role as a postpartum doula is heavily focused on nurturing the mother. I primarily work with the mother on her physical and emotional well-being so that she can rest, heal and spend time bonding with her newborn baby. I will be there by her side to listen as she processes her experience, offering guidance, validation and emotional support. I also spend time with partners and siblings to help the whole family unit during this transition. Planning for postpartum support is one of the most important (and often overlooked) things you can do for yourself during pregnancy.
Planning and preparation for postpartum and breastfeeding.
Prepare warm beverages and nourishing foods in your kitchen.
Breastfeeding support and referral to IBCLC as needed.
Infant care that honors your baby’s biological needs; babywearing techniques; cloth diapering and elimination communication (EC).
Encourage physical healing and replenishment through a variety of techniques and offerings.
Light house cleaning.
Capture pictures of you with your newborn.
Dana’s Postpartum Doula care typically includes: One (1) in-person prenatal visit, virtual planning sessions, and as many daytime postpartum visits as you want. We will work together to create a personalized support timeline that works best for you and your family.
Birth Doula
Supporting your goals and protecting the energy in your birth space are my top priorities. Witnessing you step into your birthing power is what I look forward to most. While I strongly believe that birth should be left to unfold as naturally as possible with as few interventions as possible, I also understand that interventions are sometimes medically necessary, and I also respect each individual’s choices and beliefs. My hope for you is that you leave your birth experience feeling empowered, but also physically safe and emotionally well so that you can confidently step into motherhood.
Birth planning and preparation, including partner.
Labor support and comfort measures.
Capture photos and videos of labor and birth, if desired.
Initial postpartum support, 1-2 hours after birth.
Dana’s Birth Doula care typically includes: at least three (3) in-person prenatal visits, continuous support during labor and the immediate postpartum, and two (2) in-person postpartum visits. Postpartum support is crucial for the wellbeing of the mother, which is why Dana includes these visits for all of her birth clients.
My philosophy as a doula:
Every birth should be facilitated according to the mother’s wishes.
Birth is dynamic and involves both the mother and the baby working together. Movement in birth is very instinctive, and the movements are different for each woman and baby.
The journey through pregnancy, birth and postpartum will lead you to a place of profound transformation, even if it’s not your first time, you will continue to evolve and grow.
This is a rite of passage that deserves honor and celebration.
The postpartum time is sacred and should be protected with tenderness and care.
